WORLD PREMIER

Sporty Lorinser Styling Package for Infiniti FX

Sportservice Lorinser is dedicated to the Infiniti FX and presents the impressiveresults as a world’s first at the Essen Motor Show 2011 (Hall 3, Booth 206). The specialist of vibrant refinements of Mercedes-Benz vehicles provides the SUV of the noble subsidiary of Nissan Infiniti with a spectacular body design. Developed initially exclusively for the Russian market, this customization programme is also considered to be sold in other markets, should the demand increase.
Stylish coordinated components turn the front of the Lorinser conversion into a dynamic eye-catcher: The new front bumper with fitted LED daytime running lights turn the design of the front end into an unmistakable identifying feature. At the rear, the downforce-reducing roof spoiler inspires as much as the redesigned rear bumper and the two double end pipes for the standard exhaust system. Matching all this, Lorinser adorns the wings of the Infinity FX with sleek side skirts. These calm the airflow between the axes and draw even more thrilling attention to the Lorinser lightalloy wheels.
The latest development and highlight in the rim programme is an especially light 22-inch alloy wheel. Characteristic of the modern style of the Lorinser monoblock design are the five triple-slotted spokes. But the visual finesse is not the only thing the RS9 has to offer: Modern manufacturing methods, precisely machined surfaces, and the application of special aluminum alloys guarantee highest bearing loads at the lowest possible weight. The wheel/tire combination has been designed especially for the Infiniti and provides the vehicle with a bespoken grip: At the front and rear axle, the 22-inch wheels are fitted with high-performance tires Continental CROSS CONTACT, size 285/35R22.
As a supplement to the existing production-type interior features, there is everything your heart’s desire – from personalized floor mats to complete leather furnishings. All equipment details are produced with the highest degree of craftsmanship and precision.

INFINITI RELEASES FIRST IMAGE OF INFINITI JX CONCEPT

Automaker Provides the First Look at Upcoming Seven-Passenger Luxury Crossover and Launches “Power of 7″ Campaign

Infiniti released an image of the Infiniti JX Concept today, giving the first official glimpse at a new luxury crossover that will join the Infiniti line next Spring. Reinforcing the vehicle’s seven-passenger seating, the photo was launched at exactly 7:07 am.

Infiniti also announced the launch of the “Power of 7″, an innovative social media campaign designed to initiate conversation about the JX Concept in advance of its global reveal at the 2011 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on August 18.

The campaign includes a series of seven images that will be distributed exclusively on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/Infiniti) every Thursday over the next seven weeks. The Facebook page will include an opportunity to win a trip for two to join Infiniti at the vehicle’s reveal at the Pebble Beach Concours.

“Families don’t have many luxury vehicle options today. The new Infiniti JX will be the 7-passenger antidote to the ho-hum luxury crossovers that are out there right now,” said Ben Poore, vice president of Infiniti Americas.

Infiniti will officially debut the production version of the 2013 Infiniti JX, which goes on sale in the Spring of 2012, at the Los Angeles Auto Show this November.

Press Release:

COMPACT INFINITI CONCEPT FIRST PICTURES

ROLLE, Switzerland (14th, February 2011) – Infiniti today releases the first images of its concept car for the Geneva Motor Show in March. Called ETHEREA, it is a compact luxury model that previews how a future entry-level Infiniti could look.

The pictures show an evolving Infiniti identity along with a profile distinctly different from anything currently available in the premium compact class.

“ETHEREA is about a new type of luxury for younger buyers,” said Toru Saito, Corporate Vice President and Leader of the Global Infiniti Business Unit. “It is not just a smaller version of a typically conservative and traditional luxury car.”

Designed under the direction of Senior Vice President of Design Shiro Nakamura, ETHEREA blends elements of coupé, sedan, hatchback and even crossover in one highly sculptural, near-mono volume form.

At 4.4m it is highly compact but at the same time it is space efficient and practical thanks to a new mechanical layout and innovative access arrangements.

Among its surprises are high-tech new interpretations of traditional Japanese materials and finishes, and several design cues set to make their mark on future production models – including the highly distinctive crescent-shaped C-pillar first seen on the Essence concept.

The ETHEREA makes its world debut on the Infiniti stand (Hall 1, Booth 1030) at 12:15 CET on Tuesday 1 March 2011.

Press Release:

2012 Infiniti M Hybrid

2012 Infiniti M Hybrid Delivers Uncompromising Performance, Luxury and Sustainability
- With V8 Power and 4-Cylinder Fuel Economy, the New Infiniti M35h Challenges Drivers to Rethink Everything They Know About Hybrids -

As the first hybrid vehicle ever to carry the mantle of Infiniti’s Inspired Performance, the new 2012 Infiniti M Hybrid, which goes on sale at Infiniti retailers nationwide in spring 2011, is about to change everything luxury sedan buyers have ever thought about hybrids, including the word “compromise.” What makes what was previously thought impossible possible is the Infiniti M Hybrid’s unprecedented balance of three attributes:

Power – the innovative one-motor, two-clutch parallel hybrid system in the Infiniti M35h delivers thrilling performance and is capable of driving in pure electric mode at speeds up to 62 mph

Luxury – maintaining the Infiniti M Sedan’s engaging driving feel and extensive array of standard comfort and convenience features

Efficiency – utilizing the Infiniti Direct Response HybridTM system, with a powerful yet compact Lithium-ion battery pack, advanced 3.5-liter V6 engine, 50kW electric motor, connected to an electronic 7-speed automatic transmission, helps achieve estimated fuel economy of 30 miles per gallon Highway (official EPA estimates not available at press time)

The result is a vehicle that first and foremost delivers the exhilarating and refined power of a V8, with the fuel efficiency of a 4-cylinder engine. Combined fuel economy of 27 mpg (estimated) is expected to be the best in class. And one other thing, with its compact Lithium-ion battery, the new Infiniti M35h also delivers an uncompromised interior and competitive trunk space.

“Taking its inspiration from the design and hybrid technology found in the breakthrough Infiniti Essence, the new M Hybrid is the only car you can buy today with more than 350 horsepower and 30 mpg,” said Infiniti Vice President Ben Poore.

“As hybrid technology has gotten more sophisticated, so have hybrid drivers. Where it was once enough to offer fuel efficiency alone, today’s hybrid buyers need performance and handling to go along with the ‘green’ attributes – and that’s where the new Infiniti Hybrid delivers like no other,” he added.

A Simpler System That Produces Greater Results
The top line message on the new Infiniti M Hybrid, the first true performance luxury hybrid sedan, is pretty easy to understand – cleaner, greener and faster. With its high power output, Infiniti Direct Response HybridTM system technology and strong rear-wheel drive driving feel, it’s a true “driver’s hybrid.”

Key to the M35h’s inspired – and green – performance is an innovative yet elegantly simple gasoline/electric drivetrain, which ensures that zero-emissions electric propulsion is used more often, for longer periods and at higher speeds than in typical hybrids.

The M35h can drive on electric power alone at speeds up to 62 mph. It can travel on electric propulsion for up to 1.2 miles at a time. Tests have shown that in mixed diving, the Infiniti M35h is able to drive in electric only mode for as much as 50% of the time.

“Total test fleet mileage was significantly greater than is typically accumulated in a new vehicle development cycle – the equivalent of circling the globe more than 23 times,” added Poore.

The 3.5-liter DOHC 24-valve V6 combines with an electric motor and high-power battery to produce 360 horsepower (hybrid system net power). The M35h deploys its power in a manner entirely in keeping with Infiniti’s sports handling philosophy Infiniti owners have come to expect. Both the gasoline V6 and electric motor deliver their power to the rear wheels via a 7-speed automatic transmission.

A new Hybrid Electric Power Steering system can help reduce fuel consumption by approximately 2%. The single electric motor and compact Lithium-ion battery pack boost efficiency further by helping keep the weight gain over the M37 down to 276 pounds.

The batteries are located behind the rear seat, but the M35h is one hybrid sedan with practical luggage room, with the trunk able to accommodate four golf bags or two large suitcases.

Infiniti Direct Response Hybrid System
At the heart of the M35h is a front-engine, rear-wheel drive layout based around an innovative drivetrain featuring a one-motor, two-clutch parallel hybrid system. The technology, which was previewed in the Infiniti Essence concept, endows the M35h with linear power delivery, stirring acceleration and the responsive rear-drive handling of a true Infiniti. The system is called the Infiniti Direct Response HybridTM system.

Two new technologies are fundamental to the M35h’s broad-ranging abilities. One is the Lithium-ion battery pack – quick to alternate between charging/discharging and, size for size, twice as powerful as conventional Nickel-Metal Hydride batteries. The second is the direct manner in which the power is delivered to the rear wheels through the 7-speed automatic transmission. This is central to providing the performance feel expected from a true luxury sports sedan.

The first of the two clutches is a dry clutch installed between the 3.5-liter V6 and the electric motor. It facilitates full decoupling of the V6 when the car is in electric drive and power regeneration modes. Decoupling the V6 reduces mechanical losses and boosts efficiency of the electric motor.

The electric motor is rated at 50 kW (67 hp) and peak torque of 199 lb-ft. It acts as either a propulsion unit, alone or in tandem with the V6, or as a power generator. As well as charging the battery in the normal way, the motor recovers energy otherwise lost during deceleration and braking.

The 302 horsepower gasoline engine is Infiniti’s proven 3.5-liter V6. It was chosen for torque characteristics (258 lb-ft at 5,000 rpm) that perfectly complement the electric motor’s output.

The electric motor’s high torque from zero rpm provides strong performance from a standing start and contributes to the sporting feel. As well as its fast charge/discharge response and 1.4 kWh capacity, the Lithium-ion battery pack is laminated to enhance the cooling performance. Temperature stability is further improved by the use of manganese positive electrodes, helping provide exceptional battery reliability.

Extra weight, the bane of many hybrids, is kept in check in the M35h by the lightweight batteries and features such as the single electric motor, no torque converter and innovative steering and braking systems, in addition to the strict weight-savings already integrated in the Infiniti M design (including extensive use of aluminum components). It all helps keep the curb weight of the M35h at 4,129 pounds. The technology comes together to make a high performance hybrid that’s electrically powered for more of the time, and at higher speeds, than competitors’ hybrids.

Innovative Steering and Braking Systems
The new Infiniti M35h is equipped with world’s first steering and braking technologies, which have been designed to deliver both environmental benefits and natural driving feel.

The steering is an electro-hydraulic system with “on-demand” assistance. It offers the advantages of both types of steering – the natural and smooth feel of hydraulic power steering and the improved fuel efficiency of an electric system. The assist motor cuts in only when the wheel is turned, further boosting efficiency. The system is more compact and lighter than traditional power steering set-ups, achieved by integrating multiple parts.

The Electric Driven Intelligent Brake SystemTM is similarly designed primarily to suit sport sedan buyers’ needs, while at the same time contributing to the M35h’s efficient operation. An electric booster motor is utilized to operate the brake cylinders, saving mass that would otherwise be added by a reserve pressure tank.

The primary benefit of the system is that by controlling both regenerative and friction braking, depending on motor operation and battery condition, the Infiniti M35h operates more efficiently – recovering otherwise wasted energy. The simplicity of these elegant mechanical solutions, with their emphasis on compactness, lightweight and fewer parts, is made possible by advanced computerized control.

“The Infiniti Direct Response HybridTM system offers an uninhibited immediacy that other hybrids simply don’t have – more power with greater efficiency and a stronger feeling of connection,” said Poore. “Our engineering team envisioned a hybrid that holds back nothing and they completely delivered. The seamless delivery of power and transition between gasoline engine and electric motor is really quite remarkable.”

The M35h utilizes the proven FM (Front Mid-ship) platform, along with the M37’s independent double-wishbone design in front and multi-link independent system in the rear. The suspension system also features front and rear stabilizer bars and double-piston shock absorbers that have been specially tuned for use with the M35h. Standard 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels and P245/50R18 V-rated all-season performance tires are offered on the Infiniti M35h, with tri-split 5-spoke aluminum-alloy wheel design available as part of the 18-inch Wheel Package.

The Infiniti M35h is also the word’s first hybrid to provide a standard feature to help alert pedestrians to its presence. The new Approaching Vehicle Sound for Pedestrians (VSP) system uses a range of distinctive sounds to help alert other road users that the vehicle is approaching. VSP automatically works from start-up to approximately miles per hour, cutting back in at approximately 15 miles per hour as the vehicle slows.

The noise sweeps from high to low frequency depending on vehicle speed and whether the Infiniti M35h is accelerating or decelerating. It is loudest at start-up to indicate that the vehicle is may begin to move off, while an intermittent tone is used when reversing.

Exterior and Interior Design: Pure Infiniti M
Like the gasoline engine-equipped Infiniti M37, the new Infiniti M Hybrid features an elegant yet sporty exterior and interior design. The exterior design is multi-layered, just like the body surface itself, which was conceived to mirror reflections from different angles to create a sense of mystery and allure.

Its balanced, rear-wheel drive proportions and stance, with a long, low hood and high rear deck, provides a roomy cabin, uncompromised by the M Hybrid’s compact battery design (located behind the rear seat).

The deep body shape of the fenders and doors give the M sedan a powerful look unlike anything on the road. The wave-style doors are constructed from aluminum for light weight, despite the material’s difficult formability. Other exterior features include an expressive, signature Infiniti double-arch upright low grille and crystal-look headlight clusters, 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, and a wave-like trunk with a high aerodynamic performance that works like a spoiler to increase downforce.

Standard features include a power sliding tinted glass moonroof with one-touch open/close, tilt feature and sliding sunshade, automatic on/off High Intensity Discharge (HID) bi-functional Xenon headlights with windshield wiper interlock, dual exhaust with polished tips, power-folding heated outside mirrors with reverse tilt-down feature, rain-sensing variable intermittent front windshield wipers and courtesy lamps built into the outside door handles. An Adaptive Front lighting System (AFS) with auto-leveling headlights is available as part of the Technology Package.

The Infiniti M Hybrid is available in seven exterior colors: Malbec Black, Liquid Platinum, Platinum Graphite, Storm Front Grey, Black Obsidian, Moonlight White and Harbour Blue.

Inside, the Infiniti M instrument panel features hybrid-unique instrument meters, meter display and IT screen displays, providing battery and other essential system information. It allows the driver to view hybrid system and available navigation system information simultaneously. Fine Vision electroluminescent gauges, gear-like rings on the instrument cluster meters and Infiniti analog clock complete the elegant design.

The M35h interior also offers standard leather-appointed, heated 10-way power driver and front passenger’s seats including 2-way power lumbar support, and dual occupant memory system for the driver’s seat, steering wheel and outside mirrors.

An entry/exit assist system for the driver’s seat and steering wheel, heated front seats, sequential welcome lighting illuminated entry system and dual-zone automatic temperature also contribute to the M’s outstanding level of standard luxury appointments.
The Deluxe Touring Package adds such notable features as the Bose® Studio Surround® sound system with digital 5.1-channel decoding and 16 speakers (including two personal speakers mounted in the shoulders of each front seat), power rear sunshade, unique quilted seat pattern with contrasting piping and additional seat bolstering, suede-like headliner and a premium stitched meter hood.

The Deluxe Touring Package also features semi-aniline leather and specially developed soft touch material for the armrests, door inserts, center console and kneepads. The Deluxe Touring Package’s genuine White Ash wood trim has been enhanced with real silver powder (Japanese Ash wood trim is offered on M35h models without the Deluxe Touring Package).

The Forest Air® system, first introduced on the Infiniti M, attempts to recreate the refreshing climate and natural breezes of a relaxing forest setting. System sensors automatically open and close air intake ports to reduce the intrusion of dust, exhaust or unpleasant odors into the cabin, while the special Grape Polyphenol filter and PlasmaclusterTM air purifier help filter allergens, mold and viruses out of the cabin. Humidity control prevents the over-drying of air from the air conditioner, while Breeze Mode provides a natural airflow feeling, gently and subtly varying the airflow from the upper and front air vents. Four interior colors are offered with the M35h depending on which options are selected – Graphite, Stone, Java or Wheat.

Like the M37, the M35h is available with a number of innovative technologies, including Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Lane Departure Prevention (LDP) systems and Blind Spot Warning (BSW) and Blind Spot InterventionTM (BSI) systems, all of which are available as part of the Technology Package. Other available safety features include Intelligent Brake Assist (IBA) with Forward Collision Warning (FCW) and Front Pre-Crash Seat Belts.

In addition, the M35h comes equipped with standard Infiniti Advanced Air Bag System (AABS) with dual-stage supplemental front air bags with seat belt sensors and occupant classification sensor; standard front seat-mounted side impact supplemental air bags; and standard roof-mounted curtain side impact supplemental air bags for front and rear-seat outboard occupant head protection.

Press Release:

INFINITI DESIGNERS SHOW THEIR PASSION IN PARIS

Paris Motor Show debut for Infiniti Performance Line G Cabrio Concept

A taste of a potential IPL range of Infinitis for Europe with enhanced performance and driving ability

Sports suspension and sports exhaust, power boost to 338 PS

Enhanced, more purposeful design for model that already proves four-seat, coupe cabriolets can be beautiful

Craftsmanship taken to new heights: cabin inlays inspired by Japanese craftsmanship

Production decision to be made after the Paris Show

Infiniti’s passion for cars – and the art, craft and technology that goes into making them so special – is given full rein at the Paris Motor Show with the debut of the Infiniti Performance Line (IPL) G Cabrio Concept.

Infiniti’s most seductive car, appropriately unveiled in one of Europe’s most romantic cities, builds on the fine looks and sporting nature of the production G Cabrio to raise the temperature in the luxury cabriolet stakes.

Resplendent in new Malbec Black – a pearlescent black paint with red hints – and Monaco Red leather interior complemented by unique new cabin inlays inspired by the finessed craftsmanship of samurai armour, the ultimate G Cabrio in concept form is a bespoke and very exclusive fulfilment of Infiniti design values.

As well as previewing a dramatic new look and classically luxurious cabin, the world’s sexiest four-seat cabriolet with electric folding hard-top – probably – provides a tantalising vision of a new range of Infiniti models to extend the Japanese brand’s reach further into the performance car market.

The Paris debut follows on from the unveiling in the USA in August of the first production Infiniti Performance Line variant, the G Coupé, with which the IPL badge has been launched in North America.

The IPL G Cabrio Concept shares many of the IPL G Coupé’s enhancements, all carefully calculated to take the Infiniti experience up a level. The IPL brief is to redefine total vehicle performance, so while power, acceleration and handling all benefit, so do more emotive aspects like the sound of the engine, the look of the details and the feel of the materials.

Already perhaps the most handsome hard-top cabriolet whether the three-piece electric roof is up or down – an operation that takes just 25 seconds – the Paris concept’s exterior changes sum up the dynamic character behind the IPL badge. Perfectly poised on its new 19-inch split-rim 7-spoke graphite-finish alloy wheels, the IPL Concept’s stand-out style is based around a sporting new front-end look. A new bumper section and blacked-out grille and headlight surrounds bring an aggressive new edge to the Cabrio while integrating perfectly with the rest of the design.

Sculptured side sill extensions work with the bigger wheels and slightly lowered body to accentuate the purposeful new stance. A body-colour bootlid spoiler, based on the aerodynamic design of that fitted to the IPL G Coupé, adorns the rear.

The interior trim finishers are unique to the Paris concept. The centre console is finished with black lacquer while the dashboard area above the glove box and doors are adorned with KACCHU, the name given to the armour used by Japan’s feudal warlords, or samurai, in the Middle Ages. Small iron plates were woven through textile to provide not just great strength but also flexibility and light weight. Because the highly skilled process allowed for a multitude of colours and patterns, the most elaborate KACCHU designs were a sign of great power and wealth.

Under the bonnet of the IPL G Cabrio Concept is Infiniti’s charismatic 3.7-litre V6 boasting 338 PS, 18 PS more than standard thanks to a high-flow dual exhaust system. It doesn’t just sound great but also reduces exhaust pressure by 30%, further enhancing engine efficiency. The point at which peak power is developed has been boosted, from 7000 to 7400 rpm – high revs which the VQ engine’s motor racing-inspired “bed plate” construction technique can take in its stride.

Maximum torque output is increased – from 360 to 374 Nm – but most important the shape of the torque curve has been refined so performance doesn’t feel in any way peaky, maintaining the linear acceleration so crucial to any Infiniti.

The Cabrio Concept’s running gear has been upgraded, again following the lead set by the IPL G Coupé. Sports suspension, with 10% stiffer springs and recalibrated dampers, are fitted and the body sits a little lower.

Top speed of the de-restricted concept car, which has a seven speed automatic transmission with magnesium paddle shifts, is more than 270 km/h, with 0-100 km/h available in under 6 seconds.

Nothing in the IPL philosophy calls for a let-up in the provision of features as standard. The IPL G Cabrio Concept maintains this Infiniti advantage by being superbly well equipped with an array of innovative comfort, convenience and safety technologies – just like the GT Premium model on which it is based and which has been available as part of the G Line in Infiniti Centres across Europe for more than a year.

So in league with the high performance looks and ability are features such as noise-cancelling technology, head restraint-mounted “personal” speakers, seats with internal heating and cooling and adaptive climate control. The 13-speaker premium sound system is by Bose® while suggestions on where to visit, stay or eat and drink are sourced from the Michelin Guides directly into the 30 GB hard disk drive navigation. It’s just one part of the all-encompassing functionality of the Connectiviti+ infotainment system which the G Cabrio first introduced to the world at the model’s launch in 2009.

A decision on launching IPL Infinitis in Europe will be taken later after reaction to the IPL G Cabrio Concept has been considered.
